Join Friends of the Middle River

I'd like to be a supporter of FOMR and I am ready to contribute!

I’m not ready to contribute but I’d still like to follow FOMR. Please keep me on the mailing list!

Frequently Asked Questions About Supporting FOMR:

Why are you changing to this paid membership model?

As FOMR has grown, we’ve found the need to secure a more predictable revenue stream. We are always being asked to expand our mission with more educational programs, more miles of cleanups, streamside management (BMPs), support for landowners, better access to the river for recreation, expanded water quality monitoring, etc. We do receive some modest grants but your support is by far what really keeps us going.

What does my new membership contribution provide?

  • An opportunity to DIRECTLY support all the ways we advocate for the Middle River. We are truly a grass-roots organization so we depend on YOU!

  • A recreational program that gives you access to the Middle River (which currently has no public access sites)

  • Educational events and activities that teach children and adults about the river ecosystem and the importance of a clean and healthy river

  • A citizen water quality monitoring program

  • An annual September FriendsFest riverside picnic to thank all our supporters

  • …and a cleaner, healthier river that can be enjoyed by all!

How much will it cost to be a FOMR Supporter?

We will accept your membership donation of any amount, but we have come up with some contribution amounts and tiers:

  • $30 - Riffle (suggested individual donation)

  • $60 - Whitewater (suggested family donation)

  • $120 - Waterfall

  • $240 - Watershed

  • $1,000 - Lifetime

Do I have to contribute one of those amounts?

No, you can make a contribution to FOMR in any amount!

Are my RAP (River Access Program) cards still valid?

Yes, though we hope that you go to friendsofthemiddleriver.org and make a contribution that will help to cover our expenses to run the RAP program.

Can I still get the newsletter?

Absolutely - we still want you to be a Friend! Our monthly newsletter will be sent to anyone who wishes to receive it, and you are still welcome to participate (and volunteer!) at any of our events, regardless of whether you are able to support us financially or not.

Do I have to renew my membership every year?

  • Yes, that’s the way our new membership model is designed, though we also have a lifetime membership amount of $1000 that would allow you to only have to contribute one time!

  • If you do select the annual renewal option on our payment form, FOMR will email you a reminder when it is time for you to renew.

I’d like to see how FOMR spends its money. Is there a way to do that?

Yes, you can look at our 990 annual tax statement here. And our monthly board meetings are always open to any interested member, on the 4th Tuesday of every month.

What is the difference between FOMR sponsorship vs. membership?

Sponsorship is more specific - by becoming a sponsor, you or your business will help us fund our annual kayak raffle and FriendsFest event. Additionally, sponsors will receive raffle tickets in exchange for their sponsorship whereas supporters will have to purchase any raffle tickets that they may want.

I’m glad to make a contribution to FOMR. I love their work. But are there other ways I can contribute, too?

YES! FOMR’s work depends upon volunteers like YOU. We are always in need of volunteers and welcome you to contact us so you can join in - it’s rewarding, fun, and sometimes wet! Also, we’re always searching for individuals that might be interested in serving on our Board of Directors. Please email us at watershedcoordinator.fomr@gmail.com.

Ok! Where do I go to become a supporter?

Become a supporter at this link here.

I prefer to send donations the old-fashioned way (via checks through snail mail). Can I still do that?
Yes, of course. Please send any checks to FOMR at PO Box 131 Verona, VA 24482. Be sure to put "membership" in the memo line.
