Due to COVID-19, this will be a SELF-GUIDED float trip.

Earth Day itself is April 22, but there are so many great nature activities to do, that many people now celebrate the whole month of April as Earth Month! On this trip, you get to see the beautiful waterfall of Falling Spring Run right at the beginning of your trip. There are a few challenging channels that need maneuvering but are not terribly difficult. There is one more challenging chute right after the Verona bridge. Then it becomes one of the quietest stretches of Middle River, with occasional shallow water. You will pass under Interstate 81 and hear the traffic above. Both the put-in and the take-out are accesses available through our River Access Program.

FOMR will:

  • set the put-in and take-out locations, mark the   take-out with a flag

  • scout the river in days ahead of the float to look for hazards of which to inform you

  • get permission from the landowners

  • staff the put-in to answer questions and sign people in

  • give you written driving directions from the put-in to the take-out

  • send a final paddler down the river to make sure everyone completes the trip as planned

PARTICIPANTS will:

  • provide your own boats, paddles, fishing gear, and required life vests

  • provide  your own shuttle of your vehicle with people you have been isolating with

  • wear facemasks at the put-in and take-out sites when you are around others from outside your party

  • complete your shuttle and pre-trip organizing and be on the water sometime between 8-9:30 am and be off the river by 2 pm

The purpose of all FOMR float trips is to introduce people to a river that has previously been somewhat inaccessible. You'll learn how to use some of the put-ins and take-outs available to River Access Program members. Canoe and kayak events— by their nature— are subject to change or cancellation due to high water, weather, or other natural hazardous conditions. Once you sign up and are notified that you are registered, we will email you with more details about where to meet and we will send you the paperwork you need to bring to the float.
