WE HAVE STARTED A WAITING LIST FOR THIS TRIP. YOU CAN STILL SIGN UP. WE WILL LET YOU KNOW AS SOON AS WE GET AN OPENING TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR PARTY. Our sign up slots are limited by the parking available at the access sites.

Due to COVID-19, this will be a SELF-GUIDED float trip.

We designed a little shorter trip, to be good for families with kids who may have shorter attention spans. Or dogs that keep jumping out of the boat. There will be a few riffles, and the stretch is good for fishing. There are channels you will need to navigate, but they are easy. This is a pretty float with farmland on both sides of the river. Both the put-in and the take-out sites are only available to this trip and are not access sites in our River Access Program.

FOMR will:

  • set the put-in and take-out locations, mark the take-out with a red flag

  • scout the river in days ahead of the trip to look for hazards of which to inform you

  • get permission from the landowners

  • staff the put-in to answer questions and sign people in

  • give you written driving directions from the put-in to the take-out

  • send a final paddler down the river to make sure everyone completes the trip as planned

PARTICIPANTS will:

  • provide your own boats, paddles, fishing gear and required life vests

  • provide  your own shuttle of your vehicle with people you have been isolating with

  • wear face masks at the put-in and take-out sites and when you are around others from outside your household

  • complete your shuttle and pre-trip organizing and be on the water sometime between 8-9:30am and be off the river by 2pm

HOW SHUTTLING VEHICLES WORKS:

Because this is a trip modified to accommodate COVID, you will have to arrange for your own shuttle within your own party or using friends and family to assist you. (Unlike our typical trips, FOMR will not be assisting with shuttles.)

Typically, this is how it will look: You will drive 2 vehicles to the put-in site and drop your boat and gear there. We will give you written directions from the put-in to the take-out. We will stay with your boat and gear while you drive both your vehicles to the take-out and you park one vehicle there. Then you will drive the second vehicle back to the put-in and park. Launch your trip! After you complete your paddle, you load your boats and gear to the awaiting vehicle and drive back one last time to the put-in to pick up the second vehicle and you are on your way!

There are certainly variations on how you could do your own shuttle, including using bikes to get back and forth! It is 2.2 miles by road from the put-in to the take-out.

The purpose of all FOMR float trips is to introduce people to a river that has previously been somewhat inaccessible. You'll learn how to use some of the put-ins and take-outs available to River Access Program members. Canoe and kayak events— by their nature— are subject to change or cancellation due to high water, weather or other natural hazardous conditions. Once you sign up, and are notified that you are registered, we will email you with more details about where to meet.
