VA SOS Trainer reviewing monitoring results with trainees.

It’s easy to become a stream monitor.  The VA SOS provides free training for volunteers in sampling protocol and aquatic insect identification.  No special background is needed, and any age group can participate.  Once trained, volunteers are assigned to a monitoring team led by an experienced monitor.  Monitoring is done in April and again in October.  It takes the monitoring team approximately 2 hours to collect and identify the aquatic insects at stream-side.  To become a stream monitor, please visit our volunteer form.

Check out a couple of the videos below that show FOMR volunteers following the netting protocol to collect insects!
