Spring 2020 is around the corner and FOMR is gearing up for spring benthic monitoring. As usual, we will monitor the first 2 weeks of April (weather permitting).
We’ve scheduled our Benthic Training (Bug School) for Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Churchville Library from 3-6 pm. (3714 Churchville Ave.).
Bug School is an opportunity to learn more about benthic monitoring and is geared towards
- potential benthic volunteers
- experienced volunteers and monitors wanting a refresher
- those interested in becoming certified monitors
FOMR benthic monitoring involves collecting bugs from the Middle River which are identified and recorded and then returned to the river. By comparing bugs which are more tolerant of pollution with bugs which are less tolerant, we are able to gauge the health of the river. It’s fun to play with bugs, hang out on the river with a great group of folks and participate in citizen science.
Please sign up for Bug School by emailing me firstname.lastname@example.org
Also, if you have interest in becoming a certified monitor, please let Pete know.
Hope to see you on February 23, 2020.
